Murcia in the top 3 cities in Europe with the most sunshine hours.

With the end of winter approaching, Holidu, the vacation rental search engine (www.holidu.es), has decided to look for cities where the sun is almost guaranteed. Using data from World Weather Online, they've added together the average number of hours of sunshine per month and created the ultimate guide to finding your next perfect vacation destination, featuring Europe's sunniest cities.

Murcia comes in third in the cities with the most hours of sunshine in Europe. You can check out the full top 3 below.

1. Alicante, Spain - average 349 hours of sunshine per month
It's official: Alicante is the sunniest city in Europe! With an average of 349 hours of sunshine per month, Alicante is the ultimate destination for sunbathers. The town is known for its beautiful coastline on the Costa Blanca, which offers wide public beaches where you can sunbathe on the sand or jump in the water and try your hand at water sports. As if the sunny weather wasn't enough, Alicante is a beautiful city. A colorful old town, an abundance of museums, historic sites, a variety of excellent restaurants and a vibrant nightlife, Alicante always has something to offer for all types of travelers.

2. Catania, Italy - average 347 hours of sunshine per month
The first Italian city in this ranking is Catania, the ancient port city of Sicily. Catania is located on the east coast of Sicily, at the foot of the famous active volcano Etna. Catania's Baroque "Old Town" is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so history and culture buffs will marvel at landmarks such as the Biscari Palace and Piazza del Duomo. To take advantage of the good weather, head to La Playa, a favorite of the locals. Spend the day sunbathing and enjoying the nightly entertainment.

3. Murcia, Spain - average 346 hours of sunshine per month
The third place is taken by Murcia, the capital of the region of the same name in southeastern Spain. The coastal part of the region is actually known as the Costa Cálida because of its microclimate, which makes the region warm with warm water all year round. The endless beaches with small coves are perfect for swimming, water sports and relaxing sunbathing. The city also has a historic center and beautiful architectural works, such as Plaza Cardenal Belluga.
