SPAIN MOST SUN HOURS IN EUROPE

If you are looking for a sunny city trip destination in Europe, then Spain is (usually) the best choice. Of the most sunny destinations in Europe, no fewer than eleven are in Spain.

The Spanish magazine Viajar of El Periodico went in search of the European cities where the sun shines the most. Using data from World Weather Online, which counts the average number of hours of sunshine per month, they searched for the most sunny city break destinations. The result? The ultimate guide for travelers seeking the long-awaited sun. Alicante is number 1 and also Murcia, Valenica made it to the top 10.

1. Alicante, Spain
349 hours of sunshine per month
It's official: Alicante is the sunniest city in Europe! With an average of 349 hours of sunshine per month, Alicante is the ultimate destination for sun-seeking travelers. The town is known for its beautiful Costa Blanca coastline, which offers wide public beaches where you can sunbathe on the sand or jump in the water and try your hand at water sports. As if the sunny weather wasn't enough, Alicante is a beautiful city. With its colorful and lively old town, fine museums, historic sites, a variety of great restaurants and a vibrant nightlife, Alicante always has something to offer all types of travelers.

2. Murcia, Spain
346 hours of sunshine per month
The third place is taken by Murcia, capital of the region of the same name in southeastern Spain. The coastal part of the region is actually known as the Costa Cálida because of its microclimate, which makes the region warm and with temperate waters all year round. The endless beaches with small coves are perfect for swimming, water sports and peaceful sunbathing. The city also has a historic center and beautiful works of architecture, such as the Plaza Cardenal Belluga.

6. Valencia, Spain
343 hours of sunshine per month
Valencia is the sixth sunniest city in Europe, with an average of 343 hours of sunshine per month. Located on the southeast coast of Spain, this port city is once again perfect if you want a city break combined with a beach holiday. You can visit the famous museum of the City of Arts and Sciences of Valencia, or stroll through the streets and squares lined with tapas bars. Make sure to try the paella while as Valencia is the birthplace of this dish. And also drink Agua de Valencia, the city's delicious cocktail made from cava or champagne, orange juice, vodka and gin.
