Café con heelo (cold coffee)

Café con heelo (cold coffee)

If you want to drink a cup of coffee in the summer , it doesn't matter which coffee, café solo, cortado, americano or cafe con leche, you will soon break out in a sweat. But in Spain they have the café con heelo, an originally Greek drink.

The preparation is actually very simple. The instant coffee is whipped with water until foamy. The drink is then poured into a glass containing (broken) ice and just drink it. When the first process is finished, the variation comes in. You really only need a blender, good coffee, ice cream, milk and the favorite ingredients. These can be vanilla, dulce de leche, mocha, etc. Please note, these are not "light" drinks, it is better to drink the Spanish café con heelo for that.

cafe con heelo
The frappé may be popular, but many Spaniards still swear by the traditional café con heelo (coffee with ice cream). By default, this coffee consists of a café solo (espresso) that has a little more coffee than usual. A glass with ice cubes is served along with the coffee.
If one drinks sugar in the coffee, it must first be put in the coffee and stirred before the coffee is poured into the glass with ice. There are variants such as in the Comunidad Valenciana where a slice of lemon is put in the glass and it is called "cafe del tiempo".

Café frappé with vanilla
This is a frappé version with vanilla ice cream. What you need is 100 milliliters of cold coffee, 50 milliliters of milk, 2 cups of ice cubes and 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream. All this goes into the blender until it is a mixed drink, after which it can be poured into a large tall glass.
Another option is to put everything except the scoop of ice cream in the blender and put the vanilla ice cream on top later. In the latter way, this frappé is often served in ice cream parlors.

Café frappe with dulce de leche
Dulce de leche is a caramel paste that is widely consumed in countries such as Argentina, Chile, Uruguay etc. Since it is sweet (literal translation is milk sweet) it gives a special taste to the summer frappé with a Latin American touch.

What you need is 100 milliliters of cold coffee, 50 milliliters of milk, 2 cups of ice cubes and 30 milliliters of dulce de leche (for sale at the Mercadona and Carrefour, among others). All this goes into the blender after which you pour the stuff into a large tall glass. If desired, you can add whipped cream and a little dulce de leche for decoration before serving.

Café frappe with mocha
We again take the frappé basic ingredients consisting of 100 milliliters of cold coffee, 50 milliliters of milk, 2 cups of ice cubes and in this case add 10 grams of cocoa powder. Again everything goes into the blender and the frappé is presented in a large tall glass. If desired with whipped cream and a little cocoa powder on top.
