Puerto de Mazarrón is a lively, authentic Spanish seaside resort, with all conceivable amenities, such as supermarkets, restaurants and the beautiful Boulevard where you can stroll along in the evening. With the sea on the right and various shops and tapas bars on the left. Who would not want that.
The area around Puerto de Mazarrón is also popular with divers thanks to its crystal clear waters. You can spot dolphins and sperm whales. The region also has numerous walks and cycling routes, so that visitors can fully enjoy the landscape along the coast and the mountains.
The 'guns' of Mazarrón is a real day out and is mainly about the beautiful rough landscape, history and the great outdoors. After a scenic drive to the top of the mountain, you will find abandoned buildings and the impressive castle with its huge cannons. The views are amazing. The castle can certainly be viewed from the inside, but bring good footwear and a flashlight.
These massive guns were part of the coastal defenses for Cartegena, the headquarters of the Spanish Mediterranean fleet. They are high on the top of a mountain near a fortress built in the mountain side between the bays of Mazarron and Cartagena.
